Here’s Johnny!
It was just reported that Johnny Damon and the Cleveland Indians have agreed to a one-year deal, with a no trade and an opt-out clause.
Damon, who is only 277 hits away from 3,000 in his career was optimistic that he would reach a deal with someone before May, and Scott Boras has done precisely that.
As much as I like and appreciate Damon, I don’t see him being that great of a match in Cleveland. There’s been questions about his abilities defensively, so for them to sign him as a platoon outfielder against right-handed pitching doesn’t exactly make a ton of sense.
There’s no question that Damon is a competitor, a leader and keeps himself in tremendous shape. If Damon can hold his own defensively, he will provide a nice boost until Grady Sizemore returns.
